Splunk picking up blacklisted file and not the whitelist file and the two logs are in the same path and permission.

Hi Splunk Gurus, Splunk is picking up logs(.stats) but ignoring logs(.log) and these two logs are in the same path and permission. ([monitor:///home/mail.stats] but not [monitor:///home/mail.log Any idea what could be the issue here? appreciate your input.
