App-Development in Python: how to read and write configuration files

Hi! I am looking for a new and non-deprecated method for reading and especially writing and updating configuration files in Python. My current implementations use admin.readConf and admin.writeConf, which leads to BOM Errors with Windows Server 2008 R2. I read about KV-Store, but it seems I would need to change the structure of my configuration files completely, right? Is there a documentation about the python APIs? I cannot find one. Currently, I try to save the configuration with the python ConfigParser but then I have the problem, that the owner of the new config file in the local folder is the currently logged on windows user and splunk has no permissions to read it. Any ideas or recommendations? I am using Splunk 6.2.6 on Windows Server 2008 R2
